Festivals and Shows

The week long Beltane Festival established in 1899 is celebrated in June each year in Peebles.  A local schoolgirl is chosen as Queen and this marks the start of festivities, culminating in her crowning as Queen on Beltane Saturday.  Every child in Peebles over the age of 7 participates in costume in the coronation and parade.

Like many border towns, Peebles also celebrates the riding of the Marches.  Over 250 riders ceremoniously ride the boundaries of the town on horseback to secure the town's rights for the next year.
