Arts and Crafts

The Borders has a long tradition of fine craftwork, particularly in local materials such as wood and textiles. Peebles is rich in craft shops and studios selling locally produced ceramics, woodwork, jewellery and metalwork.

The performing arts are well supported by Tweed Theatre, a group of local enthusiasts who have been mounting highly professional performances in Peebles and beyond for many years. The local support for dance, music and theatre has been a major factor in creating a new Arts Centre that is based in a former church - the new Eastgate Theatre.

The Municipal Museum and Gallery present exhibitions on the history of the area as well as contemporary art from all over Scotland.  Other small galleries in the town display and sell the work of local artists.
