Industry in Peebles

For over one hundred and fifty years Peebles has attracted visitors.  In recent years tourism has diversified with mountain biking, horse-riding and golf now available as well as the traditional hill walking and fishing.

The Peebles Hotel Hydro, established at the end of the 19th century to cater for wealthy tourists, plays a major part in the tourism industry of Peebles.  Many national conferences are accommodated in this handsome building. The Peebles Hotel Hydro is famous throughout Scotland for its facilities and situation on the hillside overlooking the town.

The textile industry also still plays an important role in the local economy.  Holland and Sherry Ltd and Robert Noble Ltd export their products all over the world and are important sources of employment in the area.
