Sport in Peebles

Rugby is by far the most popular sport in Peebles and in the Borders generally.  The success of the Peebles' team, recently promoted to the Premier Division, is followed with keen interest by local people.  The Rugby Club is a focus for social life as well as for sport.

Football has a wide following too.  It is played by many local boys and girls who compete through the league run by local schools in Peebles and the surrounding villages.

Peebles has a championship golf course, a bowling green and tennis courts.  There is a Peebles Cricket Club that plays regularly throughout the summer months.  The local swimming club is based in the modern pool on the banks of the River Tweed and indoor sports are catered for at the Gytes Leisure Centre.  The town is also well supplied with rugby and football pitches at the Leisure Centre.
