Putting Scotland on the map

The Scottish population is around 5.1 million, almost half of whom live in the central belt between Edinburgh and Glasgow the remainder being scattered throughout the Highlands and islands and the south of Scotland close to the English border.
The north west of Scotland is famous for its mountains and lochs. The south of Scotland has rich agricultural and grazing land and is made up of farms set among small market towns.
Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland, is an international financial and cultural centre. It is also one of the most beautiful cities in Europe being blessed with a dramatic setting below the medieval castle and fine architecture. The newly devolved Scottish Parliament is based here. The two flags which symbolise Scotland are the Lion Rampant and St Andrew's Cross. The flag of Great Britain is the Union Jack.
