Akelarre visit Peebles August 2008

Akelarre Visit Scotland. Tuesday 26th August 2008 saw the arrival of the Basque Dance Group Akelarre, the group arrived in Peebles early evening to the skirl of Bagpipes and were welcomed to Peebles by Peebles-Hendaye Twinning Association Chairman Bruce Macalister at a reception within Peebles Rugby Club where Akelarre members were introduced to their host families.
                                During the buffet the group sang one or two Basque songs they also performed a few traditional dances before being whisked off  for a good nights sleep.

Twin Town visits aren't just a one way thing

Visits between Peebles and its Twin town of Hendaye aren?t just a one way thing, Peebles Rugby Club has recently returned from a thoroughly enjoyable trip to Hendaye.
                              During their visit Peebles RFC took part in some games and tournaments at Stade Hendayais. The hospitality shown by their hosts was very much appreciated by all.

College St.Vincent Students Exchange Visit

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

June the 10th 2008 saw 20 Pupils and 2 teachers arrive from Collège St Vincent on an exchange visit as guests of Peebles High School.
On the Monday night  before leaving the students attended and participated in a Ceilidh night held in their honour at the High School.
During the evening the Students were given a demonstration of the Cumbrian Pipes and some Pre-High School and High School Students performed a Highland Dance routine.
Some members of Peebles-Hendaye Twinning Association Committee attended giving their support, Chairman Bruce Macalister adorned his Highland dress and took part with Linda Herbst dancing one or two of the Highland dances.
Judging by the expressions on everyone's face a thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by Students,Parents and visitors alike

Otsailan, with musical director Dina Licht, singing at the Eastgate Theatre during their visit to Peebles in September 2007 .  The group sang whenever they had the opportunity and entertained at Kingsland Primary School, the MacFarlane Hall, Peebles Nursing Home, in the quadrangle as part of the Busking Festival, in Glenkinchie Distillery, Neidpath Castle, on the High street, in the Bridge Inn, on the mini-bus, in their hosts' homes, at the airport, on the aircraft ...   They are probably still singing as you read this!
